Expansion of Boundaries
Oikos Boutique & Residences was designed to host and present to its guests the characteristics and values of Kefalonia island in a unique way.
The basic compositional performance caused the visitor’s emotions to emerge from the strong contrasts of the natural landscape with modern building materials. In total, two complexes with four maisonette and two studios will be created on two different adjoining plots to cover all the needs in the fields of tourism and wedding events.
The integration of the complex, according to the elevations of the land, contributes to the fact that only the 1st floor is visible from the country roads, in contrast to the overall development of the complex that someone “can read” from the sea.
The unspoilt landscape of the area is distinguished by the strong architectural lines of the building volumes. Each volume spells out the type of dwelling it covers. Each suite and each space respectively individual frames. Retaining walls embrace the structure on the ground floor forming outdoor spaces and varied shapes. Columns of light were created to allow it to penetrate the parts of the buildings that sink into the ground.
Natural landscape, new planting and building volumes are combined and contrasted with the strong elements of the sea and the view.
Inside, each wood surface defines the boundaries of the space and, accordingly, determines its position in relation to the sea. The textures of the materials highlight the surfaces in their own way. Matt and smooth finishes of the interior contrast with the roughness of the ground and the “waters” of the sea.
In the outdoor area, the infinity pools isolate the guest during the stay, but also unite the spaces during the events that take place after the wedding ceremony. The lighting and sound of the overflow, the bushy planting, the sloping natural terrain and the artificial lighting of the complex coexist with the sound and strong feeling of the sea.
